How to know which version to load (nowdays it is highly likely to be the 4MHz version)?
There are two methods for this.
One method is when Checking program appears at startup.
To the upper right bios version and frequency is printed. If no
frequency is printed, use the 6MHz version.
The other method is to run System Info, on the Setup menu.
If an incorrrect version is loaded, nothing is broken but the
system won't work properly. If the wrong version has been loaded
the system might hang after the meny appears. You must then restart
and load the correct version.
General advice
- Refrain from any actions during the update procedure which may
interrupt it, such as starting/stopping the engine
- If you use a floppy, make sure to use a newly formatted disk. You
can do this by running format a: /u in Windows
- If your bios version is earlier than 1.5 you should start the
normal program and open the hatch before you start the update
procedure. The reason for this is that the early bios versions don't
automatically open the hatch
- You may manually prevent the hatch from closing. The hatch motor
will stop when it encounters resistance
Program load
- Download the correct version
- Unzip to a disk, using Winzip
or similar
- Reboot the system, open the hatch and insert disk
- Reboot the system again, when the text Checking program appears,
press and hold Enter for a few seconds
- The Service menu should now appear
- Select "Load application" (On newer version you have to choose
between Floppy and USB)
- The new program version will now begin to load, it will take a
few minutes
- Once program load is finished, reboot
